The High Court sitting in Lilongwe has this morning resumed hearing a case involving business tycoon Leston Mulli, former Chief Secretary to Government Lloyd Muhara, and former Secretary to Treasury Cliff Kenneth Chiunda, who are facing charges related to a K5 billion alleged fraud during the disposal of the Malawi Savings Bank (MSB).

On Tuesday, the State requested the High Court to revoke the bail of the three accused for failing to appear in court and not providing reasons for their absence.

State lawyer Dziko Malunda informed the court that several issues need to be addressed today.

First, the Defence must explain why bail should not be revoked due to their failure to attend court yesterday.

Additionally, the accused are expected to enter their pleas regarding the matter.

In a new development, the State has received a letter from the Defence, seeking clarification on why Counsel George Desiderio Liwimbi and Counsel Enock Chibwana have been appointed as Public Prosecutors in the case.
