The Alliance for Democracy (AFORD) has denied endorsing former President Peter Mutharika, torchbearer of the opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) in the forthcoming 2025 polls.

AFORD spokesperson Annie Amatullah Maluwa said those people doing so are doing on their own.

“The members can make their wishes, but we are waiting for the top national executive committee [NEC] members to put an alliance committee that will be dealing with all political parties that wish to have an alliance with Aford.

“We are just waiting for the final say on which political parties we are going into alliance with. When the time comes, we will make the final decision,” said Maluwa.

Speaking in an exclusive interview aired on Times Television program hosted by Brian Banda, AFORD President Enoch Chihana said talks on alliance with DPP are at advanced stage.

Chihana said currently the talks are 50 percent done.

Enoch Chihana recently was spotted attending Mulhakho wa Alhomwe in Mulanje before attending DPP convention at Comesa Hall in Blantyre.
