The NGO Gender Coordination Network and the Women’s Manifesto Movement have expressed their concern over the detention of the Secretary General for United Transformation Movement (UTM) Patricia Kaliati.

Through a statement released, the two organizations urged law enforcement agencies to proceed with the matter in a professional manner, within the confines of the current laws.

“We have not been able to get the specifics regarding the allegations levelled against her due to lack of details in the press statement issued by the Malawi Police Service,” they said.

Meanwhile, a statement released by the Malawi Police Service on Thursday, it indicated that the Service has evidence which implicates Hon. Kaliati and two others on suspicion to conspiring with others to commit a serious offense (felony).

Yesterday, senior UTM officials rushed to Lingadzi Police Station to visit Kaliati, accompanied by UTM supporters.

This morning, Kaliati is being taken to court to face charges.

More details to come…
