In a tragic incident on Saturday morning, a man identified as Isaac Maudzu lost his life in a tree-cutting accident in Katapira Village, Nkhotakota District.
According to Nkhunga Police spokesperson Andrew Kamanga, the accident occurred around 10:00 am as Maudzu, a resident of Kawiri Village under Senior Chief Kanyenda, was working alongside Pilirani Chisale, 24, to cut down a tree for timber.
Reports indicate that while cutting the tree, it fell unexpectedly, crushing Maudzu and causing severe injuries to his leg and neck. Chisale provided immediate first aid before rushing to the village to inform others of the incident. However, by the time police and medical responders arrived, Maudzu had already passed away.
Medical personnel confirmed that Maudzu died from excessive blood loss due to the injuries sustained. This accident serves as a tragic reminder of the importance of safety precautions in logging activities.
