The Center for Democracy and Economic Development Initiatives (CDEDI) has cancelled its’ planned demonstrations which were supposed to be held on 29 and 30th of this month in Ntcheu and Lilongwe respectively.
The protests were aimed at pushing President Lazarus Chakwera institute a Commission of enquiry to investigate circumstances that led to the Malawi Defence Force (MDF) Aircraft crush that killed then vice president Dr. Saulos Chilima and eight others in Nthungwa area, Chikangawa in Mzimba.
Speaking to journalists yesterday in Lilongwe, CDEDI Executive Director, Silyvester Namiwa, said the cancellation follows the appointment of a 19 member commission of enquiry to investigate the incident.
Namiwa has also confirmed that he has accepted his inclusion into the commission which is being chaired by high court Judge Jabar Alide.
Namiwa has assured the public that his inclusion will not jeopardize his work as ‘spokesperson’ for the voiceless.
