The court in Domasi has sentenced 32-year-old Madalitso Komwa to 6 years in prison for taking and stealing property worth K671,000 from the temple.
Prosecutor Peter Sosola told the court that the man took and stole goods such as a cross, candles, clothes and a picture of Mother Maria from the Catholic church in Katamba, the area of Nkagula chiefdom in Zomba.
They accepted the charge when they appeared in court on October 22.
Today, when he appeared in court, the government asked for a strict punishment for the suspects, considering that this man is a repeat offender who was sentenced to three years in prison for the crime of theft.
Eric Mchosa, the judge, said the case was serious and went on to sentence the officer to six years in prison.
The Komwa come from the village of Mkumbira in the region of the great chief Nkagula.
