Reports reaching is publication indicates that police at Kamuzu International Airport (KIA) in Lilongwe have arrested a passenger, identified as Lyndiwe Khembo Chihana.

Airport Police Public Relations Officer Dorrah Chathyoka has confirmed the developments, saying the 46-year-old was arrested on October 30, 2024, for allegedly assaulting police officers and an Ethiopian airline manager.

It’s said the situation escalated when Chihana, originally bound for the United Kingdom, refused to leave a seat designated for the cabin crew on her rescheduled flight, a Boeing 787, after her initial flight was cancelled.

It further said, despite being offered a complimentary high-class seat, she refused to move, reportedly used abusive language, and resisted requests from the airline staff.

Her refusal led the captain to request her removal from the aircraft.

When police officers intervened, Chihana allegedly assaulted them and later attacked the Ethiopian airline station manager.

Chihana now faces charges of conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace and common assault. Her court appearance is scheduled this morning.
