Police in Lilongwe arrested 23-year-old Maclester Phiri for stealing 200,000 kwacha and a laptop from the education office in Area 4 last Friday.

According to Lilongwe Police Deputy Spokesperson Constable Khumbo Sanyiwa, he said the officer pretended to be a student of Mchitanjiru CDSS school and wanted help to pay for the school.

When he arrived at the office and found no one there, he just took the laptop and the money that was nearby and left.

After an investigation, the police arrested the officer at his house in Area 3 where he lives with his wife.

At present, the search for the place where the officer left the laptop is underway.

Sanyiwa said that Maclester will appear in court where he will answer the case.

This elder is from the village of Mailosi, chief of Ngabu in Chikwawa.
