Mozambican opposition leader Venâncio Mondlane has alleged an assassination attempt on his life in South Africa, where he sought refuge after contesting last month’s presidential election results.

In a video shared on Facebook, Mondlane, who was the election’s runner-up, claimed he was in “mortal danger” after assassins came to his residence intending to kill him.

Mondlane stated that he escaped by jumping through a back door and running through a hair salon with his bags, accompanied by his wife and daughter. No evidence has been provided to support his claim, and Mozambican authorities have yet to comment on the allegations.
