Former President Peter Mutharika who is also Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) torchbearer has congratulated the newly elected United States of America President Donald J Trump.

Trump has won in the key battleground states of Georgia, Pennsylvania and North Carolina – and is leading in several others – narrowing Kamala Harris’s path to victory significantly.

Writing on his official Facebook page Mutharika wished well Trump has he return to power as the 47th President.

“On behalf of the Democratic Progressive Party and the people of Malawi, Gertrude and I extend our heartfelt congratulations to you on your election victory. Your leadership and vision for America have clearly resonated with the American people, and we look forward to seeing the positive impact of your presidency on the global stage.

“As a fellow leader and advocate for democratic values, I commend your commitment to promoting economic growth, national security, and international cooperation. We share a mutual interest in fostering stronger ties between our nations and exploring opportunities for shared benefit,” wrote Mutharika.

He added: “Please accept our warmest wishes for your success as you take on this important role. We eagerly anticipate future collaboration to further strengthen the relationship between Malawi and the United States.”

Zimbabwe President Emmerson Mnangagwa has also congratulated Trump who has outclassed Kamala Harris in the polls.
