Four opposition political parties have joined forces to hold vigil at Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) offices in the capital Lilongwe from November 13, 2024.

The four political parties namely; United Democratic Front (UDF), Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), Alliance for Democracy (AFORD) and United Transformation Movement (UTM) are asking the electoral body to stop the use of Smartmatic tech in the transmission of result.

This has bee revealed in a letter to the District Commissioner for Lilongwe and the Inspector General of Police notifying the two offices of the impending demonstrations.

According to the letter, the four political parties also want National Registration Bureau (NRB) to adhere to the court ruling which ordered the two state owned companies to be holding the registration exercise side by side ahead of the 2025 polls.
