Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) has clarified that the transmission of results for the September 2025 General Election will be done both physically and electronically from the Constituency and District tally centres to the national tally centre.

According to MEC chairperson Annabel Mtalimanja the electoral body is yet to develop a module for results management using the Election Management Devices and that once it is developed stakeholders will be consulted.

She was responding to concerns from political party representatives on why the electoral body wants to use the devices in the results management when former MEC chairperson Chifundo Kachale said the machines will only be used for registration purposes.

She said: ” I don’t have the context under which the comments were made by the former chairperson but our policy documents including the operational plan is clear that the transmission will be both physical and electronic”.

Mtalimanja is currently facing strong opposition with many people especially from the opposition side demanding her immediate resignation for sticking to smartmatic system in transmitting the electoral results.

Others are baying for her blood because of her link to former Malawi Congress Party (MCP) President John Zenus Ungapake Tembo.
