There are running battles between law enforcers and protesters under the banner Centre for Democracy and Economic Development Initiative (CDEDI) at Lilongwe Community Ground as the latter is not backing out.

CDEDI organized demonstrations today with an aim of forcing President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera to fire Minister of Energy Ibrahim Matola and Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (MERA) Chief Executive Officer Henry Kachaje over fuel crisis in the country.

As the group was waiting for its leader Sylvester Namiwa to arrive at the venue, armed police officers fired teargas to disperse the peaceful protesters resulting into a pandemonium.

Meanwhile, youths armed with panga knives have also invaded the venue chasing everyone suspected to be among the protesters.
