Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (MERA) has suspended the operating licenses of three filling stations for violating a ban on the use of jerry cans and drums when selling fuel to customers.
According to the notice by MERA, the three filling stations of Mount Meru Santhe in Kasungu, Puma Gemini and Total Ufulu in Lilongwe were found selling fuel to customers in jerrycans and storing fuel in drums.
MERA added that the conduct by the three service stations undermines the effort of equitable distribution and access of fuel to the public.
MERA further said the suspension of the operations will only be lifted when the service stations take necessary and satisfactory measures to avoid future occurrences of the vice.
