Alliance for Democracy (AFORD) Member of Parliament for Mzimba North Yeremiah Chihana has endorsed former President Peter Mutharika ahead of the 2025 polls.

Chihana said this in Parliament when he stood to contribute on a report from the Public Accounts Committee regarding the 2022 audit.

In his contribution, Chihana said that Mutharika, leader of the opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) is the only person who is capable to turn around the economy of the country which is currently crumbling.

He said Malawi is currently heading for doom when it comes to economy.

Chihana’s statement attracted commotion in the house with the first Deputy Speaker Madalitso Kazombo questioning the endorsement while AFORD has its own leadership under the name of Enoch Chihana.

Minister of Sports Uchizi Mkandawire said Chihana is a frustrated manner yawning for positions in government.

Meanwhile, Parliament has been adjourned for 10 minutes.
