The Meteorological Department has issued a warning that heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms will affect all regions of the country from November 28 to November 30, 2024.

In its latest forecast, the department cautioned that the rains may lead to localized flooding, posing risks to life and property. Citizens are advised to exercise extreme caution during this period.

“Given the potential for flooding, we strongly urge people to avoid crossing swollen rivers and refrain from taking shelter under trees during storms,” the department said in a statement.

Experts attributed the heavy rainfall to the Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ), an unstable weather system caused by the convergence of northern and southern air masses.

The department has called on the public to stay informed by following weather updates and adhere to safety guidelines to minimize risks during this period.
