Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Councillor for Blantyre City Soche East Ward Leonard Chimbanga has accused United Tranformation Movement (UTM) President Dr. Dalitso Kabambe of false promises ahead of the 2025 polls.
During a media briefing yesterday Kabambe promised to walk on foot the office once elected as President of Malawi in 2025 polls.
Kabambe said he will do that as one way of serving government resources.
But comment on the promises, Chimbanga described the promise as a blatant lie.
“I didn’t watch the whole interview, but I caught this clip—and honestly, I’m struggling to believe what Dr. Kabambe is saying. A President walking to the office? Really? Is this a campaign promise or a plot for a new Tikufelanji series?
“Let’s break it down. Security alone makes this impossible. Imagine the convoy of bodyguards sprinting behind him or the traffic chaos in Lilongwe as motorists dodge the Presidential Jog,” wrote Chimbanga.
He added: “And then there’s Atupele promising to remove the title “Excellency.” I get the sentiment—less pomp, more service. But didn’t Chakwera also promise to trim presidential powers? No more chancellor of universities, no more traffic-stopping motorcades… We all know how that turned out. Talk Talk Talk basi.
“Can we please have promises grounded in reality? At this rate, someone might promise free Wi-Fi for every goat.”
Chimbanga has since urged Malawians t give Mutharika a second chance.
“We deserve better than being treated like fools every election cycle. Let’s hold them accountable. This why I recommend we try someone who has already been tested His Excellency Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika,” he wrote.
Malawi will go polls on September 16 2025.
