A 29-year-old man, Peter Tembo, has tragically died after being stabbed by his friend and workmate, Lackson Hawendo, aged 31, during a fight at Lubambe Copper Mine camp in Chililabombwe, Zambia.

According to Copperbelt Province Police Commissioner Peacewell Mweemba, the altercation occurred on December 3, 2024, at approximately 23:30 hours. Tembo, an employee of a subcontracting company at the mine, sustained a fatal chest wound after being attacked with a knife.

Workmates at the scene apprehended Hawendo and took both him and the injured Tembo to Kakoso Hospital. Unfortunately, Tembo was pronounced dead upon arrival. Hawendo, who suffered injuries from an angry mob, is currently hospitalized.

A knife believed to be the weapon used was recovered from the scene, and police have launched an investigation into the incident.
