First deputy speaker of Parliament Madalitso Kazombo has ruled that parliamentary deliberations will continue this afternoon with him presiding over.

Kazombo has also communicated that the five-day suspension to Chairperson of the Parliamentary committee on Agriculture Sameer Suleman is still on and that he is free to carry out duties in his Constituency.

“But Carrying the banner of Parliament outside parliament that has to be investigated. But impeaching a person, a procedure is followed and I cannot talk much about it,” Kazombo said.

Earlier in the day, the government side wanted Kazombo to recuse himself and allow another speaker to take over the afternoon session.

Government side legislatures among others they want parliament to impeach Suleman as chairperson for the agriculture committee for what they said “his conduct of continuing to carry out his duties when he inspected SFFRFM offices in Blantyre, while on a five day suspension”.

Currently, there is division in the house as leader of Opposition George Chaponda wants to come up with a question while the government is against it.

Meanwhile, Parliament has been suspended.
