Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has disclosed that approximately 43,000 Ukrainian soldiers have died since the start of Russia’s invasion. In a rare acknowledgment of the toll on Ukraine’s forces, he also stated that 370,000 soldiers had been injured, including cases of multiple injuries to the same individuals.

Zelensky claimed that Russian forces have suffered even greater losses, with 198,000 soldiers killed and 550,000 injured.

The BBC has not independently verified these figures. Both Russia and Ukraine have typically refrained from releasing casualty statistics, and analysts suggest that both sides may underreport the true costs of the conflict.
