The Malawi Gaming and Lotteries Authority (MAGLA) has revealed that since April this year, five individuals have been sent to St. John of God Hospital for treatment related to gambling addiction.
Speaking during a media training session held in Blantyre, MAGLA official Lawrence Chikoko highlighted the growing concern of people viewing gambling as a primary source of income rather than recreational activity.
“Gambling is meant to be a form of entertainment, not a job,” Chikoko emphasized, urging the public to avoid excessive reliance on gambling for livelihood.
The move underscores MAGLA’s commitment to addressing the social challenges associated with gambling in Malawi.
