Police at Mponela in Dowa have on Monday arrested a man for allegedly stealing a wire worth K1.2 million belonging to the Electricity Supply Commission of Malawi (Escom).
Mponela Police Public Relations Officer Macpatson Msadala has identified the man as 19-year-old Forget Amon who is suspected to have committed the offence during the night of December 8, 2024, at Chilimmimba village, Senior Chief Kayembe in the district.
“On the day, an Escom staff discovered that one of their wires at their working place was missing and he reported the matter to his supervisor, who then reported the matter to Mbingwa Police Unit.
“Upon receipt of the matter, Mbingwa police instituted investigations which led to the arrest of the suspect and recovery of the said wire at his house. The suspect confessed to have taken the wire,” said Msadala.
Msadala added saying the suspect will appear before court soon to answer charges levelled against him.
Amon hails from Kamkosi village, Senior Chief Kayembe in Dowa.
