Information reaching our publication indicates that Kamuzu Central Hospital currently has 36 unclaimed bodies in its cold rooms, four of which are infants. These bodies have remained unclaimed for approximately two months.

Assistant Hospital Administrator Fredrick Chinkondenji Sibande confirmed that the hospital plans to dispose of the bodies on Wednesday, 18th December 2024.

Health rights campaigner Maziko Matemba has supported the decision, stating that it will help alleviate congestion at the referral facility, which has been struggling with space and resources. The disposal of these bodies is seen as a necessary step to ensure the smooth operation of the hospital.
