Ntcheu district has registered first cholera case since the beginning of cholera season.

Ntcheu district health promotion officer Stella Kawalala said the case involved a 74 years old woman from Sokela Village in the area of Traditional Authority Nankumba in Mangochi.

“She reported to Ntcheu district hospital for other medical conditions on 6th December 2024 and while there she developed diarrhoea and specimen was collected on 13th December 2024 for testing and results came out positive,” said Kawalala.

Kawalala said so far the district health office has intensified health talks on cholera prevention and have informed their counterparts in Mangochi district adding surveillance activities under way.

Meanwhile Ntcheu district hospital has advised people to take necessary hygiene practices such as washing hands with soap after using a toilet among others.
