The opposition Peoples Party (PP) has denied cashing in MK15.9 million during the funeral ceremony of late Dr. Saulos Chilima and 8 others who died in a plane crash on June 10, 2024.
This is contrary to the recent inquiry report released led by its chairperson Justice Jabbar Alide which claimed 10 political parties squandered money amounting to MK160 million from public coffers during the funeral ceremony of Chilima and others.
According to the report, PP collected MK15.7 million, United Democratic Front (UDF) collected MK15 Million, Malawi Congress Party (MCP) collected MK30 million, UTM collected MK61 million, Alliance for Democracy (AFORD) collected MK12 million.
While Freedom Party (FP) received Mk9 million, Petra and Umodzi party eache received MK5 million, PPM and Mafunde received 4 and 3.9 million respectively.
But speaking in an interview with the press PP spokesperson Ackson Kalaile Banda said the party only received MK9.5 million.
Effort to talk to Secretary to the office of the President and Cabinet Colleen Zamba proved futile.
