The Blantyre Magistrate Court has granted bail to Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Member of Parliament for Mulanje Bale Victor Musowa who is accused of proposing violence.

Musowa was summoned this morning to South West Region Police Headquarters where he was cautioned and arrested.

Musowa later appeared before Blantyre Chief Resident Magistrate’s Court where he was formally charged and he applied for bail.

The case was adjourned to this afternoon for bail ruling.

Chief Resident magistrate Paul Chiotcha among others said the state has failed to give a convincing explanation on why the accused should be detained for seven more days.

South West Police Regional prosecution Officer Superintendent Damiano Kaputa asked the Court for further detention to allow Police conclude investigation, a prayer which the CRM denied.

DPP Councillor for Blantyre City Soche East Ward Leonard Chimbanga has confirmed of the development in a short statement posted on his official facebook page.

“Hon Victor Musowa has been granted bail by Blantyre court,” wrote chimbanga.
