A nonprofit making organization, which works with partners in Africa and Asia to scale up evidence based interventions to reduce poverty burden through safe water, Evidence Action,has expressed discontent over the increased vandalism of chlorine dispensers and other devices.

Speaking in an interview during the second Southern Region Press Club (SRPC) annual general meeting which was recently held in Mangochi, Evidence Action Programs Manager Moses chisangwala highlighted that over 3,000 chlorine dispensers have been vandalized in 2024 a lone ,a situation that has put approximately 200,000 people at risk of accessing unsafe water.

“Beneficiaries, especially men and boys who are expected to safeguard the infrastructures are the primary perpetrators,” he said.

Chisangwala further indicated that his organization does not subscribe to any political views or opinions and has since asked politicians to desist from posting political campaign materials on chlorine dispensers.

“We have noted that some politicians are posting political campaign materials on water dispensers.we are therefore asking all journalists across the country to help in separating safe water program and politics through massive sensitization,” urged Chisangwala.

Southern Region Press Club president Ronald Amos hailed the partnership that exists between the club and Evidence Action and has pledged to help advancing the significant agenda of different partners including Evidence Action.

He also asked journalists across the country to disseminate the information about safe water program being implemented by Evidence Action ,adding that rural communities must usually utilize treated water to prevent waterbone diseases such as cholera and diarrhea.
