The South African music industry is mourning the loss of legendary Kwaito artist Doc Shebeleza, whose real name was Victor Bogopane.

He passed away in hospital at the age of 51 after a long illness, his family has confirmed.

Shebeleza rose to fame with his debut album S’Kumfete in 1996, which spawned hits like Kum’nandi, Ebumnandini, and Ghetsa Ghetsa.

He also founded the group Amaskumfete, known for their hit single Tsipa Tsipa.

As a pioneer of the Kwaito genre, Doc Shebeleza’s influence extended far beyond his own music.

He inspired a generation of artists, including Mandoza, Mapaputsi, and Cassper Nyovest, who paid tribute to Shebeleza in his 2014 hit song.

In recent years, Shebeleza dedicated himself to philanthropy through his organization Amaha, supporting fellow artists in need.

Tributes are pouring in for the late musician, with fans and fellow artists taking to social media to share their condolences.
