The Chikwawa first grade magistrate’s court on 9 January,2025 has convicted and sentenced Lucius Danger for burglary and Theft.
Court heard through the prosecutor from Chikwawa Police Station Sub Inspector Frank Ngoleka that Danger on night of 12 December 2024 he broke into a house of a certain person and went away with the assorted items valued K800,000.
When appearing in court he pleaded guilty for the two counts of Burglary and Theft which are contrary to section 309(2) and 278 of the penal code respectively.
In his submission Sub Inspector Frank Ngoleka asked court to give harsh custodial sentence citing that the convict benefited after selling the stolen items he added that the house breaking offences are rampant in the district therefore harsh penalty will deter other would be offenders.
In his mitigation Danger asked court for leniency by saying that he is a bread winner for his family, therefore sending him to prison his child will lack his support.
When delivering his ruling first grade magistrate Joram Zebron concurred with the state and slapped the convinct to 4 years imprisonment with hard labour for burglary and another 2 years for theft both sentences to run concurrently.
