Speaking on MBC radio on Sunday 14 August 2011, Bingu wa Mutharika said the events could turn violent. He said organizers should carefully review their position. On 20 July, 19 people were killed as police clashed with ‘red army’ protesters in three Malawian cities.  President Mutharika has repeatedly vowed to hunt down the leaders of the July demonstrations.
