The leadership of the United Democratic Front (UDF) says it is ready to guard against any attempts to rig the May 20 general election.

The party’s Presidential candidate Atupele Muluzi claims they are on top of issues and are following everything happening in the run up to the elections.

His comments come as some stakeholders have expressed fear that the elections could be susceptible to rigging.

The suspension of the voters’ roll verification exercise by the Malawi Electoral Commission due to irregularities has brought suspicion to opposition political party leaders, who described the mess as an indication that the roll is flawed.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Capital FM, Muluzi describes reports of some individuals going round buying voter identity cards as a sign of attempts to manipulate the voters.
