Lazarus Chakwera, the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) leader, has indicated that he owns two cars of which one is a Hummer that was given to him by a well-wisher in South Africa for his campaign purposes. The other is a Mercedes Benz of which he bought when he was the President of the Malawi Assemblies of God.

Chakwera said this when he disclosed his assets at a Press briefing held in the capital, Lilongwe.

Chakwera who refused to disclose his bank balance claiming that assessors had to make an evaluation of them indicated that he has three houses which are all in Lilongwe.

However, his net wealth was not disclosed on the same grounds that he is waiting for assessors to evaluate them.

Chakwera has become the first Presidential candidate in the history of Malawi to declare his assets days before the elections. His opponents are yet to declare their assets.
