The late Former  Deputy Minister of Local Government, Godfry Kanyama committed suicide due to death threats he received from Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) senior officials.

This is according to the suicide note he left behind read out by President Joyce Banda during a press conference held on Thursday at Kamuzu Palace.

In his note, Kamanya claimed that he had thought of killing himself because of the threats he received from Ben Phiri and Mayi Makuta of DPP that they would kill him.

He also advised the President to take good care of his  daughter  Thoko until she finishes School.

Many people linked his suicide to the elections.

Kamanya was contesting for a Parliamentary seat in Lilongwe Misozi north where unofficial results indicate that he had lost the elections.

Kamanya shot himself in the early hours of Thursday.
