The newly recruited female teachers in Blantyre have accused the Ministry of Education for not being  inconsiderate of their marital status in posting them to various schools.

The concerned teachers who opted for anonymity expressed their concerns in an interview with Face of Malawi.

“The development has affected our families. We have been posted to schools far away from Blantyre Urban where we live. We will be required to commute on daily basis from our homes. We wonder why the ministry did not consider our marital status in their posting.

“We are pressing Blantyre Education Manager’s office since we received posting letters early last month to consider posting us within Blantyre Urban primary schools so that we are closer to our families and serve on transport costs”, said one of the teachers.

Meanwhile the Ministry’s spokesperson Rabecca Phwitiko confirmed receiving the complaints but she said there is nothing that the Ministry can do .
