Coach Young Chimodzi yesterday named a squad for July 6 Independence Day celebrations international friendly against Mozambique.

The coach has blended some new faces with old guards as he tried to include players that are doing well on the domestic scene.

Notable inclusions in the squad are Mc Donald Harawa (Moyale Barracks), Sankhani Mkandawire (Big Bullets), Zasher Mnong’oneza and Calisto Kalinda (Mafco), who return to the side after a long break.

The side has some new faces like Paul Ndhlovu (Mafco), Nelson Kangunje (Civo United), Lottie Mwakasulu (Red Lions), Richard Mbulu (Mafco), Kelvin Haganda (Kamuzu Barracks) and Tizgowele Kumwenda (Big Bullets).

Usual campaigners in the squad include goalkeepers Charles Swini, Vincent Gona and Richard Chipuwa, defenders John Lanjesi, Gastin Simukonda, Francis Mulimbika, Bashir Maunde, Pilirani Makupe and captain Lucky Malata.

The squad has midfielders Phillip Masiye, John Banda, Micium Mhone, Ndaziona Chatsalira, Frank Banda and Young Chimodzi Jnr who are regulars.

However, missing from the squad are Silver duo of Green Harawa and Rodrick Gonani, Bullets’ Diverson Mlozi, Douglas Chirambo and Pilirani Zonda.

Bullets’ in form winger Fischer Kondowe has also been snubbed.

The coach has also left out Under-20 national team starlets from the squad.

The Flames technical panel had earlier expressed interest in fast-tracking the players’ promotion to the Flames, but this hit a snag after Coach Ernest Mtawali refused.

Though a consensus was reached that the players can play in the July 6 friendly only, Chimodzi has left them out.

Fam general secretary Suzgo Nyirenda’s press release said the players are expected to start camp on Sunday.

“The players will report for camp at the Chiwembe Technical Centre on Sunday 29th June 2014,” Nyirenda said.
