A Malawian woman in Ntcheu, aged 66, has been killed for allegedly failing to pay a K300 debt she owed.
According to Ntcheu District Police publicist Gift Matewere, the victim was identified as Emily Gladson of Kaumphawi Village, Traditional Authority Nsamala in Balaka.
Matewere also confirmed that they have apprehended the suspect, James Minama, 35, who hails from M’gwawu Village, Traditional Authority Phambala in Ntcheu.
He further explained that the deceased had owed the suspect money amounting to k300 which he wanted back.
Sources say Minama had invited Gladson to his home where he asked her to repay him back his money, unfortunately Gladson did not have the money at the time that’s when Minama picked up a knife and lunged at the victim and stabbed her three times in the chest.
Gladson was pronounced dead upon arrival at Balaka District Hospital, police disclosed.
“Minama will be charged with murder,” said Matewere.
