Barely a week after the press exposed that Teachers who mark Junior Certificate of Education(JCE) examinations in the country receive K12.70 per paper, Malawi National Examination Board (MANEB) says the body is considering to increase the allowance.hiking

The development also follows the boycott of over 90 Teachers who were expected to start marking exams on Monday due to dissatisfaction with the allowances and threaten not to mark the exams if the body does not increase the allowance.

MANEB Spokesperson Simeon Maganga told a local media house in the country (ZBS) that the body is currently considering revising the allowance of Teachers.

“This is a budgetary issue. And considering that MANEB is a nonprofit making organization the increment cannot happen overnight,” he said.

Reports gathered by FaceofMalawi indicate that MANEB Director for Education Mr Mutala told the the boycotting Teachers in a meeting held last week that the body cannot increase the allowance and if anything they should just pack u and go back home.

Meanwhile it is not yet known if Teachers will start marking the exams or not as others have left the place where the exercise was supposed to be held.
