Following the High Court order in Lilongwe last Friday, the government has released unconditionally two vehicles belonging to former Justice Minister Ralph Kasambara and his alleged accomplice who are alleged being accused of attempting to kill former Budget Director Mr. Paul Mphwiyo.
During the Court Proceedings last week Friday where Mphwiyo was giving testimony on his attempted murder, the defence in the matter argued that a Mercedes Benz belonging to Kasambara and a Fortuner belonging to Pika Manondo which vehicles had been seized by the police in relation to the alleged assassination plot, were depreciating and hence should be released for continued use by the owners.
In his ruling Judge Michael Mtambo said that the cars be released immediately and he also urged both parties in the case to release all documents for fair trial of the case.
Former Justice Minister Ralph Kasambara,Pika Manondo, Dauka Manondo, Robert Kadzuwa and Macdonald Kumwembe are the one’s answering murder charges and conspiracy.
They accused people have denied the charges.
The murder attempt of Mphwiyo in September last year at his residence in Lilongwe led to the revelations of Plundering of public funds at Capitol Hill dubbed Cashgate.
The case has since been adjourned to September 22, 2014.
