Malawi national team the flames have registered a rise on the Fifa/Coca-cola rankings for the month of August.
Flames have moved 15 steps up at World level which is from position 121 to 106 while in Africa it is on Position 30.
An away 1-0 loss to top-ranked Benin and a home win against the Squirrels by a similar margin in the 2015 Morocco Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, has Fifa website recognising the Flames.
This month fifa ranking has surprised many soccer lovers as most teams who have register a big rise are from Africa, namely Lesotho (105th, up 26), Malawi (106th, up 15), Sierra Leone (50th, up 14), Benin (77th, up 14), Botswana (86th, up 13) and Guinea-Bissau (123rd, up 13). This month also sees Sierra Leone make their first appearance in the top 50.
The last time Flames registered a big rise was in 2002 where the team jumped to 90.
In Africa Algeria is still leading while at World level Germany, 2014 World Cup Champions is also leading.
