Barely six days after Parliament appointed the first ever Director of Public Officer Declaration (DPOP) Christopher Tukula,FaceofMalawi has learnt that President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika has declared his asset.
Although this is the case Malawians will wait a little longer to known Mutharika’s wealth as it has been transpired that the President has asked advice from Attorney General (AG) as to who will handle his file since Tukula has not started his job.
Minister of Information, Kondwani Nakhumwa confirmed of the development in an interview with the press by saying, the ball is in the hands of AG’s
“Government is ready with the file but we are left in the dark as to whom we should hand the file since the officers have just been appointed and don’t have an office. We don’t know if they have been given letters of appointment yet,” said Nankhumwa.
FOM’s effort to talk to Kalekeni Kaphale to confirm on the issue proved futile as he is reported not in the country.
As stipulated in Section 88 (a) of the Constitution of the land, the elected President is given three months to made his assets, liabilities and business interest known to the public.
Meanwhile it is not yet known as to when Mutharika’s assets will be made known to the public.
