The National Assembly Speaker, Richard Msowoya yesterday said that the business committee of parliament meets today to discuss and agree practical business to be deliberated upon by law makers.
The development comes as parliament is set to start meetings next week Monday. The meetings which among other things will discuss and pass 2014/15 National Budget amounting to K 743 billion as estimated by Finance Minister Goodall Gondwe.
“This is the meeting of parliament and we will be looking at allocations that the minister of Finance has made in the national budget after his consultations and parliament has a duty to the law so that they can spend legally.
“The agenda is already there but as business committee we will meet this Friday (29-08-2014) to see what proposals government brings, what parliament brings and political party representatives brings forth on the table so that we should have a common ground before converging” said Msowoya.
He added that parliament will also be scrutinising previous budget performance against allocations which he said remain part of the oversight role of parliament.
