Malawi national team’s assistant coach Jack Chamangwana has exuded confidence ahead of playing Mali in the Africa Cup of Nations [AFCON] 2015 qualifier on 6 September.
Speaking to cafonline Chamangwana boasted of being the only team from southern Africa participating in the AFCON and his remarkable rise in the FIFA rankings.
Going for a win
-It was good for us to make such a huge rise on the latest FIFA rankings. Once you beat top teams, you move, but we are not just looking at the rankings but beating top teams such as those in North Africa. In the group stages we will be going for a win or at least a draw in all away games. Our aim is to stand the pressure of playing the top teams. The rankings are just a bonus, Chamangwana said.
The only team from southern part of Africa
– In our group, we are the only ones from the Southern Africa region while the others are from West Africa, East and North Africa and this means a lot of travelling, he added.
Malawi and Mali are in Group B together with Ethiopia and Algeria.
