A 20-year-old man is in police custody in Lilongwe for allegedly murdering his brother in-law Austin Nkhoma aged 50.

Lilongwe Police Public Relations Officer sub-Inspector Kingsley Dandaula confirmed of the development and identified the suspect as Innocent Grenord.

According to Dandaula the deceased and the suspect lived in the same house at Chimoka and both worked for PLEM Construction Company in Kanengo in Lilongwe.

Dandaula said on 13 September the deceased and the suspect went to their office in Kanengo to collect their wages but for some reason only the deceased was paid and that made the suspect furious and eventually cut Nkhoma’s neck with a knife when they got home later in the night.

The suspect will answer murder charges contrary to section 209 of the penal code.

Grenord hails from Ngwepa Village, Traditional Authority (TA) Maganga in Salima district while the deceased hails from Mpondeni Village, TA Maganga in the same district.
