Police in Mzuzu have arrested five Universal Industries Limited employees in connection with the fire that gutted the company’s sales depot in Mzuzu City on Wednesday around lunch mid-day.
Fire fighters from Mzuzu City Council managed to contain the fire before it caused a lot of damage however, Mzuzu Police’s Superintendent Annie Kaunda revealed that the fire started from the stores section of the building.
She said, surprisingly, the fire skipped the middle section of the building and gutted the cash office where one of the two cash boxes is currently missing.
“We have arrested these people because we want to find out where the missing cash box is,” Superintendent Kaunda said.
The names of the arrested employees could not be immediately established.
Meanwhile, the police say investigating as to find out what caused the fire.
