The Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA) has a new Director General, Mr. Andrew Kumbatira. Mr. Kumbatira, the former Post Master General, reported for duty at MACRA headquarters in Blantyre earlier this month, accompanied by the Principal Secretary of Information, Tourism and Culture, Mrs. Chimwemwe Banda and the Comptroller of Statutory Corporation Mr. Zangazanga Chikhosi.
During the meeting with MACRA Executive Management, Mr. Chikhosi expressed gratitude for having the opportunity to present the new DG to the MACRA family.
“I am glad to present to you the new Director General and it is my hope that you will give him all the necessary support he needs during his stay at MACRA,” he said. Making her remarks, the PS advised the new DG to carefully analyze the working environment and the role of people within the institution.
“My expectation is that people should not waste time on backbiting but rather they should come to you with reports on the tasks they are supposed to carry out,” she said.
Making his maiden speech, the DG paid tribute to his predecessor, Mr. Charles Nsaliwa, whom he said worked hard to bring the organization to the level where it is today. He promised to steer MACRA to new and greater heights.“All we need is unity, for in unity we have strength,” he said.
Welcoming the new DG, the Director of Telecommunications Mr. Lloyd Momba said the MACRA family was happy to have Mr. Kumbatira at MACRA.
Mr. Momba congratulated the new DG on his appointment and further thanked him for accepting the offer to come and steer the MACRA ship. “What is more pleasing is that Mr. Kumbatira is not new to the ICT industry. We have interacted with him on many occasions and am sure he will not consider himself a stranger at MACRA,” he said.
