Umodzi Party (UP) President Professor John Chisi has added his voice on the proposal by people from the North led by former ruling People’s Party (PP) provincial chairman Christopher Mzomera Ngwira on the formation of Federal System of government.
Speaking in an interview with one of the local media house in the country [ Capital FM], Chisi alleged that those people in for-front advocating for the System have been bribed.
“I don’t have evidence but from experience I have seen that a lot of people in politics don’t just volunteer to do things because I have seen it myself, when I was in a political scene, the chair I was sitting on I was paying for it” Said Chisi.
He however suggested that it could be proper if Malawians were advised on what exactly is meant in as far as federalism is concerned and give them an opportunity to debate on the issue.
Commenting on the matter on behalf Malawi government , Minister of information, Tourism and culture Kondwani Nankhumwa said the government is planning to call for a referendum on the issue.
Ngwira and other people from the North are accusing the current regime under President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika of favouring people from the Southern Region especially from Thyolo.
