Information sourced by FaceofMalawi indicates that the Office of the President and Cabinet has removed up to 46 drivers from the state residence and reassigned them to Plant and Vehicle Hire Organization (PVHO).
This has been disclosed in a letter of termination of services dated July 6, 2014 signed by Deputy Director of State Residences Lawford Palani addressed to one of the drivers and it reads in part;
” The exigencies of services require your immediate post from State residences to Plant and Vehicle Hire Organisations to fill an existing post as driver/chauffer.
“You are required to surrender your identity card as soon as possible and report to your new duty station”.
Responding to the development, one of the drivers who talked to FOM and opted for anonymity said the letters are a mockery because there are no vacancies at the PVHO.
” It is not like we are clinging to be working at the state residence but we are here at the PVHO premises just playing bawo because government has nothing to do with us because our positions have been taken up by [DPP] young democrats”, alleged one of the drivers.
When approached for comment, Principal Secretary for Human Resource Management and Development Sam Madula said his department has not handled any issue related to this matter.
State House Press Secretary Fredrick Ndala asked for more time when asked to comment.
Since President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika ascended to the high office hiring and firing of government top officials has been on the center stage.
Various Stakeholders have criticized Mutharika’s move branding him of practicing nepotism.
