Former Principle Secretary in the Ministry of Tourism Treza Namathanga Senzani, who pleaded guilty of theft and money laundering charges in the plundering of public funds dubbed cashgate has been sentenced to three years imprisonment.

Judge Ivy Kamanga passed her judgment on Tuesday after failing to do so on Monday.

Justice Kamanga sentenced Senzani to nine months for a charge of theft and three yrs for money laundering. The sentences will run concurrently.

The judge also ordered the forfeiture of her money and banks account to be taken by the State.

Senzani is the first person to be convicted since the scandal came to light in September last year after unknown thugs shot former Budget Director Paul Mphwiyo.
