A 45-year-old man in Ntchisi has died after drowning in Mtuwanjobvu Stream after taking excessive beer.
The incident is said to have occurred on the night of Thursday, October 16 this year.
Police have identified the deceased as David Enock, from Kaphonje village in the area of Traditional Authority Khombedza in Salima District.
Enock who was a tenant at Atipatsa Farm located at Mnkhwere village in the area of Traditional Authority Chilooko in Ntchisi drowned when he fell into Mtuwanjobvu Stream when crossing on his way back home.
The deceased’s wife, Ireen David, told police that the deceased on Thursday, October 16 this year at noon hours left his home without taking food to meet his boss at Malomo Trading Centre to get assistance where he was given K1000 and instead of going back home he proceeded to drink beer at Chiwembe location in the area.
The body was found floating in Mtuwanjobvu Stream on Friday morning.
A post-mortem conducted at Malomo Health Centre indicated that Enock died of suffocation as a result of drowning. Nothing foul was suspected as the body had no marks of violence.
