Minister of Finance and Economic Development Goodall Gondwe has apologized to all Civil Servants in the country over June salaries delay.

Gondwe made the apology on Tuesday in the August House after the opposition Political parties questioned the delay and asked the Minister to explain.

Initially, Civil Servants in the country receive their monthly dues on the 27th of each and every month but this is not the case with month of June as Civil Servants have entered the month of July without salaries.

“I must apologise for the delay and it is important that people are made aware that the situation is as a result of improvements being made to the Ifmis [Integrated Financial Management Information System]. But we are trying to fix and make enhancements, thus it has not been possible for us to process the salaries,” Gondwe was quoted as saying.

Gondwe however assured Civil Servants in the country that they will get thier salaries by the end of this week.

Earlier in the week, Minister of Finance Spokesperson Nations Msowoya attributed the delay to end of financial year processes such as closing of financial books and preparations for the 2015/16 financial year.

Meanwhile it is yet to be seen if Civil Servants will receive their dues as promised by the Minister.
